Books, Joy, and Discovery: A Look Inside KATHA’s Tamil Nadu Book Fairs

KATHA is deeply honored to host book fairs in diverse communities. The joy we feel when enthusiastic book lovers discover their desired titles with us is truly unmatched. We take pride in creating spaces where readers can walk among stories, feel the weight of a book in hand, read a preface, and be captivated – rather than merely scrolling on a shopping site. We believe it is this connection between story and soul that drives KATHA to bring books to people everywhere and nurture the joy of discovery.

This year, KATHA held book fairs in three vibrant corners of Tamil Nadu: Thiruvallur, Cuddalore, and Vellore. The response we received was unforgettable. Thousands of young, curious readers marched into our stalls, drawn not just by unique titles and colorful covers, but by the promise of stories that reflected their lives.

In Thiruvallur, nestled among 1,020 stalls at Stall 63, KATHA became a buzzing hub. Over 1,500 visitors, including 600 schoolchildren, walked through. My Big Book of Fun with Friends, filled with challenges, mazes, and adventures that sparked critical thinking and laughter, was a crowd favorite. Finding Tree, a heartfelt call to love and protect nature, quietly touched many hearts. But it was Days with Thathu that resonated the most. Its gentle depiction of a grandchild’s bond with their grandfather offered a soul-stirring connection between story and reality. Though we sold 103 books – not our highest – it remains an experience we’ll always cherish.

In Cuddalore, our busiest fair at Stall 58, we were embraced by 2,000 visitors, including 800 children. We sold 221 books. Among them, Abba’s Day, which highlights the warmth of a Sunday shared with a father, stood out. Our Teacher, a celebration of beloved educators, was eagerly picked up, while Pokiri Parrot, full of clever mischief, delighted children with its charm and humor.

In Vellore, at Stall 60, we displayed over 1,300 books. Finding Tree again found a home in many hearts. Days with Thathu and Abba’s Day also connected deeply with readers, as did Cat in the Dark, whose quiet suspense captivated younger audiences.

Through this journey, we’ve come to understand that when children are given access to stories that speak their language, it transforms them in ways we never imagined. Our excitement was reaffirmed by countless readers who expressed their desire to invest time, energy, and money in our books. Their enthusiasm motivates us to continue bringing stories to more places—places where dreams stir quietly, waiting to be awakened through reading.
