When Skills Spark Change: Families Finding Hope Through Learning

Amidst the hustle and bustle of the cities of Delhi and Noida lies KATHA’s Information Technology and E-Commerce School (KITES), providing IT education to students and youth at all levels. It was established in an effort to help them find their footing in the real world by providing certified technical courses and placement opportunities. It is not just a school but a space where learning meets real life; where a child, youth, or adult can find change.

The doors here are open to everyone, with students and adults sitting side by side, filled with equal curiosity. KITES imparts not only skills but also self-confidence. It is a place where families gather with a shared purpose – to learn new skills, build confidence, and create brighter futures for themselves and their families.

This is more than just a classroom. The lessons taught here go far beyond the four walls, reaching into the community through programs aimed at providing skill-based training, financial education, and more. The hustle of these fast-paced cities often hides the quiet magic unfolding here, transforming families and communities, and imparting skills that lead to lasting change.

In Ma Mandal (Mother’s Association), as the name suggests, it is mothers who gather. For many of these women, it is a new experience to step into a space as a learner. They are offered various technical skills to choose from. Tailoring is one such course taught here. They learn to cut, measure, and stitch, following trends they find online and creating beautiful designs. They build digital portfolios, ready to share with export houses. Slowly they acquire skills, and their confidence begins to grow.

Bapu Mandal, or the Father’s Association, caters to the fathers in the community, many of whom run small shops. We offer them courses where they can learn how to use Excel to manage their inventories and record transactions, instead of writing them down in notebooks and struggling to tally them at the end of the day. They discover how simple tools can ease their daily work. What once felt difficult becomes manageable, and they leave each session feeling more equipped and empowered.

Then there is the Balika Mandal, for girls who had to leave school too early. Learning here begins softly. The girls are invited to explore the computer lab, where curiosity takes over. As they begin clicking and learning about how the computer works and its functions, their interest in education is rekindled with renewed curiosity. With gentle guidance, they are encouraged to return to their studies and join the Katha Lab School, where learning happens at their own pace, with joy and care.

These are stories of transformation. At KITES, community members do more than just learn new skills. They rediscover their potential, strengthen their bonds, and take hopeful steps toward a future shaped by their own hands and dreams.
