We launch this library with four poems. Two from the legendary poets Rabindranath Tagore and Ismail Meeruti, as well as younger and loved poets Viji Ghosh and Vatsala Kaul, two of our most favourite poets!
We are delighted to bring you two stories that were first published by Rosalind Wilson in Target Magazine. The Carpenter’s Apprentice is by Monisha Mukundan, a delightful writer for children. She is the author of Shekar, Akbar-Birbal Stories and several other books for older children. An editor with the award-winning magazine Namaste since 1982, she lives in Delhi. Mukta Munjal became interested in reading, writing and music. while still in school. She was able to turn her love of books and music into a profession by contributing reviews and stories for different publications while at Lady Shriram College, New Delhi. She is a freelance journalist doing travel writing, book reviews and fiction for children. She recently graduated from the London School of Journalism and is presently working on a full length fiction novel set in north India.
This library has three stories that won the Katha Award for Creative Fiction. Three fabulous writers who have changed the way we see life! Asha Bage, One of today’s major Marathi writers. Her novels and short stories have received critical acclaim and are translated into various languages. She was honoured with the SahityaAkademy Award for her novel Bhoomi in 2007, which she wrote after her visit to the 2004 tsunami ravaged areas of Tamil Nadu. First published as ‘Pankh’, Wings bagged her the Katha Award for Creative Fiction for the best original writing in Marathi. The translator of this story is Gauri Deshpande. A person so many of us have loved to talk to and interact with, she translated this story specially for us! GauriDeshpande was a novelist, short story writer, and poet herself. She wrote in Marathi and English. She was born in Pune in 1942 to IrawatiKarve and DinkarKarve. Find this writer on Wikipedia. Bimal Kar was an eminent Bengali writer and novelist. He received the 1975 SahityaAkademi Award from India’s National Academy of Letters, for his novel Asamay. Find this writer in Wikipedia. M.R. Kapoor is a well known children’s writer who writes in Hindi. He has nearly 60 books to his credit. A collection of his favourite stories has been published as Bal Katha Nidhi.
