The teachers of Katha Lab School have all the reasons to rejoice as a team of four students from the school are the first runners up in the Interschool Robotics Challenge (IRC) 2013.
Shivam, Happy Singh, Rafique Khan and Aman Sharma from Class 7th of the Katha Lab School under the guidance of Sharmila Ma’am, Krishan Sir and Tarun Sir who introduced them to the competition have come up with two models that can help tackle massive disasters like the Uttarakhand floods in a nuanced an efficient way.
The first model named ‘Gripper’ by the students had a dual function and could pull and push debris from back and front at the same time hence saving time. The other model resembled a crane but the students had given it their own touch by changing the curved area to help pick huge amounts of debris.
The models were made keeping in mind the need of better responsiveness when a disaster strikes.
Shivam, a member of the team said, “We made the model in one day and this competition has given us a lot of exposure and the next model that we will make would be much better.”
The other schools that took part in the competition were: Bluebells School, Rose Vallley School, DPS Vasant Kunj, DPS Saket, Kendriya Vidyalaya. Bluebells School bagged the first prize in the competition.
