Faisla
Basumati is a leader of her village, and married to its
chief. While she deals with the concerns and constraints
of married life, she is very aware of her rights. This
story is a powerful portrayal of contemporary socio-political reality.
Maitreyi Pushpa is known for breaking
conventions, setting rules. She is the voice of Bundelkhand
and its people — especially the women, strong-willed
despite all attempts to suppress their individuality. She
brings these women alive depicting the truth of their lives
in a simple and compassionate way. Their struggles are
artistically woven into stories that describe the rustic
beauty of Bundelkhand and grip the reader with their powerful
rendition. The short story collection, Chinhar,
won her the Hindi Academy Award. She has a number of novels
to her credit including Alma Kabutari, Idannumam, Chak,
Betwa Bahti Rahi, Jhula Nat, Aganpakhi, Vision and Kasturi
Kundal. She has been honoured with numerous awards,
the latest being the SAARC Writers’ Award. |
