translating stories transforming lives

our friends of katha

Katha, with limited financial resources, is propped up by the unqualified enthusiasm and the indispensable support of nearly 5000 dedicated women and men.

if you feel strongly about children, the education of working children, women and equity, community revitalization, story, storytelling or the vast virgin territory that's story in education, you belong with us!

KathaNet, an invaluable network of our friends, is the mainstay of all our various activities, part of an ever-widening circle of activists.

We are constantly on the lookout for people who can spare the time to contribute to our work, to  work in the various community initiatives of Katha, either real time or virtual:

  1. mentoring, tutoring, researching, developing teaching/learning materials in Hindi,
  2. helping us maintain our website;
  3. or finding stories from the bhasha to translate into English, nominating editors or to translate them. Katha has been able to access mainly the literature of the major Indian languages. We are specially eager to find Friends who could introduce us to Bhojpuri, Dogri, Kashmiri, Maithili, Manipuri, Nepali, Rajasthani and Sindhi fiction.

Send us details about yourself, your language skills, the ways in which you can help us, and any material that you already have and feel might be publishable under a Katha programme.

Contributing has never been more satisfying say people who have worked with Katha!
