activities for registered participants to choose from
- either formally organized courses that lead to a Katha
certificate or fun activities each month - in your own

COLLEGE
PROGRAMME
OPTION I: Katha Certificate Courses that you can choose
from for your college.
THE WRITERS WORKSHOP helps students to review,
evaluate, and hone their writing skills. For people who
have at least a story written and ready to discuss, the
workshop helps participants develop creativity and an
ability to share ideas and insights, and to appreciate
other points of view.
Learning to play the role of a moderator: It is the responsibility
of a lead moderator to ensure that the atmosphere of the
workshop is conducive to constructive, insightful discussions
- useful skills for those on decision-making career paths.
THE TRANSLATORS WORKSHOP. Hands-on training
in the art and craft of translation through peer group
interactions, with special inputs from Katha editors.
An exciting, fast-growing field for people with bilingual
skills. Learn how you can enjoy what actually pays! Translations
done under this programme will be considered for possible
publication by Katha.
FICTION APPRECIATION. Students learn to look
closely at texts and to enjoy narratives. Analytical and
reflective skills that enhance creativity in negotiations,
inter-personal relationships, problem solving. Builds
language skills for multi-cultural, multi-lingual situations.
An added bonus - the ability to culturelink, the urgent
need in a globalized economy.
FICTION EDITING. A hands-on course that introduces
students to the challenge of designing, typesetting, font
management ... and more! Certificate holders can opt,
later, for a one-year part time diploma course in the
form of an internship at the Katha office. Just for a
select few!
TEACHING TRANSLATION. For students planning
careers in academia - Pedagogy of teaching. Finding and
creating the resources and tools needed to help break
the culture of silence; exploring creative teaching techniques.
TRANSLATION & THE MEDIA. For students who
see themselves in advertising or television, radio, films.
Introductions to topics ranging from dubbing and sub-titling
to creative use of language.

II: Through this extension you can offer leadership
building activities to students, helping them create programmes
to their liking, using Katha models. A packet of exciting

Net. One free workshop for Katha Club members.
DURATION
OF THE COURSE. Katha Club activities will be held
only when college is in session. Each certificate course
will last 30 hours, spread over seven monthly meetings,
unless students want to organize it otherwise. Katha is
open to suggestions and innovative ideas!
Activities on an intercollegiate level can be organized
by Katha for participating colleges.

in all that it does. Katha's main objective is to enhance
the pleasures of reading for children and adults, for
experienced readers and those who are just beginning to
